Get ready, Imperial Valley—on May 7, Kidisthenics will officially open the doors to its first-ever indoor gym: a 4,200-square-foot space thoughtfully designed to support individuals with autism through high-intensity, sensory-friendly movement. For the first time in company history, Kidisthenics is bringing its dynamic outdoor programs indoors, creating an immersive environment where movement meets mindfulness – and every detail is built with inclusivity in mind.

“The opening of our first physical location is a groundbreaking milestone for Kidisthenics,” said Ryan Bigelow, chief operating officer. “It symbolizes our commitment to growth, innovation, and accessibility. Creating this facility allows us to provide a consistent, high-quality experience for our clients, regardless of the weather. It’s a dedicated space where we can further enhance our programs, experiment with new techniques, and offer a more tailored experience to every individual.”

With summer temperatures rising in the Valley, the Kidisthenics team wanted to create a safe, accessible space where clients could continue training in movement-based methodologies year-round.

The new facility is a sensory-engaging fitness hub equipped with climbing ropes, a half-court basketball hoop, vaults, box jumps, battle ropes, sled pushes, ping pong, and cognitive coordination stations. It will house all of Kidisthenics’ core methodologies, including Primitive Movement Training, Rhythmic Movement Training, Sensory-Integration Training and a new pilot program – Rhythmic Audio Training (RAT) – developed by Bigelow. This innovative technique combines spatial audio with rhythmic movement to optimize neuroplasticity, sensory processing, motor coordination, and emotional regulation.

Getting the gym ready for opening day has been what Bigelow describes to be “a labor of love.”

“It’s involved frequent trips between San Diego and Imperial Valley, manually transporting over 7,000 pounds of mats, and designing the entire layout from scratch,” said Bigelow. “Everything inside–from the equipment arrangement to the training flow–has been developed by our team with careful attention to detail.”

To commemorate this milestone, the Imperial Valley Chamber of Commerce will host a red ribbon-cutting ceremony during the May 7 grand opening. Open to the public, the event will provide exclusive first access to the facility and include remarks from company leadership and local officials, interactive demonstrations of the gym equipment and training methods, as well as food truck catering provided by Tacos Alex.

“It’s not only the Chamber of Commerce that’s excited, but the whole Imperial Valley. It will be inspiring to see the opening of Kidisthenics, a place that will truly make a difference for families in our community by uplifting individuals with autism and creating meaningful opportunities for growth and support.” – Jaymee Chan, ambassador for the Imperial Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce."

While families will have the flexibility to choose between indoor and outdoor sessions come early May, the Kidisthenics team will offer recommendations to ensure each client’s environment is best suited to their individual progress and enjoyment.

“I’m excited to see this facility become a hub of inspiration, empowerment, and inclusivity for the Imperial Valley community,” said Bigelow. “Our vision is to create an environment where individuals of all abilities feel welcomed, supported and motivated to reach their fullest potential. I hope this gym becomes a place of growth and connection, where people come together to pursue their goals and celebrate each other’s progress.”
