Autism Digest: August Edition

Movement can be a powerful tool for helping individuals with autism build body awareness, coordination and emotional regulation. Rhythmic Movement Training, or RMT, is an intentional movement-based approach that combines rhythmic and developmental movement patterns with targeted isometric pressure, active self-awareness, and exercises for motor coordination. Together, these elements provide organized sensory and motor input that support the nervous system and help the brain develop more mature, efficient movement responses.
In this summer-themed Movement Minute, Kidisthenics demonstrates three movements – slow controlled squats with arm raises, slow spinning, and crawling variations – that can be practiced on the sand or in the water. These natural environments add resistance, instability, and sensory feedback, creating an engaging way to build skills that can support summer sport activities such as kayaking and paddleboarding.
